Songbirds With Very Little to No Feathers
These baby birds are called hatchlings (birth) or nestlings (live in the nest). If you find a featherless baby on the ground, it likely has fallen out of the nest. If you see the nest and can reach it safely, put the baby bird back in it. If you cannot see or reach the nest, please put it in a container with fleece or other non-looped material then, please call us.
Songbirds With Feathers
Baby birds with feathers are called fledglings. These baby birds learn to fly by leaving the nest and you will see them on the ground hopping around. The parents are still tending to the babies and are feeding them and teaching them how to survive on their own.
This is a very vulnerable time for baby birds and by KEEPING CATS INDOORS, they have a better chance of survival. If, however, a cat has caught a baby bird, it likely has injuries and will need antibiotic medicine to survive.
